A Terran Times Tale

Chapter One
Delyth held her breath as the hands moved over her torso to the beat of the music. She twisted slightly, the choreography restraining her to minute movements.
Taking erotic dance classes at the Companion Training Centre had not been her idea but it was never bad to add a new dance style to her repertoire.
The Companion dancing with her was named Baiss. He had a talent for waking her sensual side and a definite skill for exploiting it.
She stifled a gasp as he spread his fingers across her belly and buried his face against her neck. Azon Sensual Dance was a skill that few practiced, but it involved getting both partners hot and bothered enough so that their pheromone cocktail affected the audience.
The dance master came forward and adjusted Baiss’s grip and used his foot to change her stance as the music continued. “You have to let go, Delyth.”
She sighed. “Yes, Master Tanish. I will work on it.”
Baiss offered, “I will help you practice if you wish.”
She shivered as his hand caressed her hip. “Thank you for the offer, but I am still getting used to this assignment. Give me a few days.”
Baiss was a Companion at the training centre between assignments. His interest in her went beyond being a dance partner, and it made her distinctly uneasy.
Master Tanish looked her in the eye and nodded. “Perhaps you just need some time to get used to the rhythms of the training centre.”
She eased out of Baiss’s grip and winced as he fought her for a moment before letting her go.
“I believe it is time for the morning meal. I will work on the Nyal enticements when I return, Master Tanish.” She nodded, and he patted her on the shoulder with a smile.
He blocked Baiss from following her with a question about the grip that he had used on her belly.
Delyth made a run for it, the tiny bells on her wrists, ankles and the hem of her gauzy blouse and skirt made a light tinkling sound as she moved.
She settled at a table with some other students and smiled as she was brought a tray of tea and a selection of small grain cakes. The apprentice who served her smiled shyly and curtseyed before pouring the tea and putting a few cakes on the small plate.
Practicing service was part of Companion training. Whether they were going to attend the young, the elderly or be a lover for hire, they had to learn the basics of service.
“Thank you, Kisha.” Delyth smiled at the young woman. “I need my Nyal dance clothing prepped for after breakfast.”
“Yes, miss.” Kisha left in a flutter of gauzy fabric.
Delyth looked to the other students, most of who were from the Alliance Dance Troupe. “Were we ever that young?”
Wissla winked, “I was never that young even when I was that young.”
Wissla was a charming Wyoran with a talent for acrobatics. She was Delyth’s best friend in the troupe and since they were both in for learning new dances, they had come to the Companion Training Centre together.
“How are your lessons going, Wissla?” Delyth wanted to know. Baiss was very attached to her for someone who had been on dozens of intimate assignments. After four days of erotic dance training, he seemed to have attached to her in some way.
“They are great. My partner is excellent on and off the dance floor.”
Wissla wagged her eyebrows lasciviously, forcing Delyth to laugh. She shook her head as she accepted that her friend had a far more adventurous sex life than she did, and it didn’t bother either of them a bit.

Kurat turned to stare at the woman with the golden laugh. “Her. I want her in the line-up.”
The coordinator swallowed. “That will not be possible, High Prefect. She is not a Companion, she is here as a student.”
Kurat looked at the smaller man and scowled. “I want her in the line-up. What do I have to do to make it happen?”
Harcor blinked and frowned. “I suppose that if you select her, you could contact the Rep for her species and arrange to purchase her contract.”
“She is out on contract?”
“Yes. Her kind has just entered the Alliance. A few have become Companions, but that woman is not one of them.”
“Why is she here?”
“She is a dancer taking classes in some of the more erotic dances offered by the Alliance and Nyal empire. From all accounts, she is very good.”
Kurat stared at her again. “Not a virgin?”
Harcor shook his head. “No. It was disclosed on her entry profile.”
Kurat smiled and settled back in his chair. “Good.”

Del felt a prickle along her skin. “Someone is staring at me.”
Wiss snickered. “Baiss again? You know you could just give in to him.”
Del shook her head. “No. He is fixated or something. It doesn’t feel right.”
“Have all your lovers felt right?”
“All four of them? Yes.” She casually let her gaze skim over the room, and when she found the man who was staring at her, the breath rushed out of her lungs. She squeaked, “Found him.”
“Who? The man who is staring?” Wiss started the same slow sweep. She let out a harsh whisper. “Holy mother of links!”
“Do you know what he is?” The leaf-green gaze with the bright gold pupils c
aught her.
Wiss shook her head. “He looks sort of like a Na-Lanvin, but I have never seen one built like that.”
Shoulders easily twice as wide as hers supported a thick neck and a head with a wide jawline. His nose was a crooked blade that had taken more than one hit in his lifetime, and a thick mane of chestnut hair topped golden brown skin. She couldn’t see his waist, but his biceps were enormous and his hands were equally large.
Wiss smiled. “He seems to have his eyes on you.”
Del swallowed nervously. “Let’s hope that is the end of the contact. He looks like he could crush me with one blow.”
Wiss nudged her with her leg under the table. “Ah, but what could the rest of him do? That is the true question at hand.”
The images were unsettling, but the expression on Wiss’s face made Del laugh again. “Thank you for being a true perv. You always manage to pull me out of my mood.”
“It is a duty and a privilege. Your bill will be in your quarters later today.” Wiss winked, and they finished their morning meal, separating until lunch.

Kurat watched her leave, a smile on her full lips. Her body had curves that begged for his touch, and deep within, Rothu stirred restlessly. It was the first time that the god of the rut had woken for any of his choices, and as the coordinator tried to explain that another person was pressing a suit for possession of the Terran, he made up his mind. No matter what sensual delights were offered by the others, the Terran was his and his alone.
Chapter Two
Del concentrated on stepping, twisting, undulating and shifting again. She loved the solo dances so much more than the couple dances. Her body freed itself and simply mixed the sensuality of the music with her current mood.
Dance Master Tanish called out suggestions for changes, and she continued to move, twist and shake with a coating of sweat gleaming on her skin.
She heard the door open and close, and the room’s atmosphere told her that she and Tanish were no longer alone.
The music wound to a peak, and she spun wildly, letting her hair flare out in a whirling golden cloud. The music stopped suddenly, and she paused, her hands in the air and her chest heaving as she caught her breath.
Slow applause made her turn more fully toward the hulk of a being that had stared at her during breakfast. Standing up, he was both more intimidating and less at the same time. His wide shoulders tapered to a narrow waist and hips, thick thighs and a height of seven and a half feet tall if he was an inch.
Del was statuesque herself, but he was a giant by any stretch of her imagination.
Master Tanish turned to the newcomers. “Coordinator Harcor, this is most unusual.”
The male from the Companion Centre nodded. “I am sorry to interrupt your session, Delyth Raygen, but you are needed in a line-up of candidates. We have contacted your Rep, and she agreed to allow you to participate.”
Del felt self-conscious with the sweat trailing down her neck and dampening the simple silk breast band into an almost transparent covering. The skirt was no better. “Um, all right. I will just grab a shower, and you can tell me where to meet you.”
Harcor shook his head. “You will come with us now, and it will be over in moments.”
That sort of sentence never ended well. Coordinator Harcor gestured for her to precede them, and she balked. “I don’t know where I am going.”
The giant held his hand out. “Come with me, lady. I will take you where you need to go.”
His voice, a bass rumble, came out with a smooth undertone that made her want to hear more.
She slipped her hand into his, and she had been right, his hand was huge. His hand was also warm, dry and held hers carefully. He led her through the dance studios and to a large room where four other women were standing in their interview gowns.
Delyth took her place in line and the man who had taken her hand started at the far end of the line, examining and sniffing the women one by one.
The coordinator dismissed the women one by one with a promise to notify them of their acceptance or not.
One by one, the women left until Del was the only one remaining. The man came up to her and lowered his head the foot between them, and he inhaled deeply, a low groan came out of him after it.
Del inhaled his scent and bit her lip as her body started to wake. This was the chemistry that she didn’t have with Baiss. One inhalation and she was ready to jump him and hang on for the ride of her life.
She felt the wet flick of a tongue against her neck, and the shiver that went through him as he tasted her was visible from her close proximity.
He lifted his head and nodded. “As I suspected. Harcor. Make the arrangements.”
Coordinator Harcor touched her arm, and his companion removed his hand before he spoke. “No one touches her now but me.”
Del raised her eyebrows, but part of her rejoiced at the excuse for not dancing with Baiss again. “Harcor, what is going on?”
Coordinator Harcor sighed. “I am about to contact the Terran Rep and begin negotiations for your transfer to Na-Lanvin. High Prefect Kurat wishes you for their goddess.”
She was surprised. “Goddess?”
Kurat spoke directly to her. “Energy beings that live in the planet itself and bless Na-Lanvin through taking a host. When their energy mixes with that of their host, the luck and joy that are spread are truly gifts from the gods.”
She stared up at him as he spoke to her. The clear cut of his lips was fascinating to watch. “I see.”
He chuckled and caressed her cheek. “No you don’t. Not yet. But you will.”
Harcor cleared his throat. “I believe that you can resume your normal schedule, Delyth. We will be in touch when things are final.”
“So, I am free to go?” She wanted to make sure.
Harcor waved her out, and she bolted. It seemed the day for running from men who had an unwholesome interest in her personally. She had some questions to ask of the Dance Troupe and her Rep.
Four hours and nine calls later, Delyth determined that she was completely hosed. While she already had her genetic heir, she was still the Alliance’s to do with as they pleased.
Empress Amy had been helpful, and she had been quite frank. “Out of the two men who are bidding for you, which would you prefer?”
Del had answered right away. “The High Prefect. Baiss just skeeves me out. I don’t know why.”
It was a choice of two evils, and she chose the one least likely to make her physically sick.
“Then, I will accept his suit and settlement. Don’t worry about it. It will be settled by the end of tomorrow.” Amy smiled and winked.
When they disconnected the call, Del turned to her schedule. The system had updated with a series of solo dance classes. All partner dances were cancelled.
Shrugging, she confirmed her next class and got dressed in the appropriate clothing for a Tynurian battle dance. If Tynurians found a woman with weapons sexy, who was Del to try to sway them?
Kisha helped her after class and rubbed cream into the bruises that Del had earned when she pitched to the floor during a particularly complicated step. “I have to say that I have never seen anyone taking such a variety of erotic dances.”
Del laughed. “To understand a people, you have to understand how they come into the living world. If sex is a hidden thing, it shows in the people, in paranoia and violence. If sex is an open thing, tensions are eased. Those are very broad assessments, but basically, sex is a great stress reliever and learning how to turn on other races is a worthwhile pursuit if it relieves anyone, be it dancer or audience.”
Kisha nodded and kept rubbing. “Interesting. I had considered it an entertainment branch.”
“It is, but it also provides exercise, undetectable martial arts training and something to do when you are standing in line. If you move your body, you can free your mind.” Del grunted as Kisha worked out the knots.
“It seems that your body is far les
s than free right now.”
“Pain is the price we occasionally pay for knowledge. Pleasure is the easier teacher by far.” Del waved Kisha off. “Good enough. I have to go to dinner with Wissla. Want the evening off?”
“No, miss. I will accompany you if you do not mind. It is always amusing when you and your companion get together.” Kisha grinned, her lovely lilac features moved in a wicked grin.
“Fine. Pick me out something pretty but dignified.”
Kisha chortled and ran to the wardrobe, pulling out a breast band, mini skirt and a transparent black belted caftan. “It is a little short on the dignified, but it is certainly pretty.”
A quick run of a brush through her hair took care of the knots from her early hair flipping, and she tucked it up in a loose chignon. The breast band and miniskirt were tight and in a glittering black material that formed to her skin the moment it was in place. The caftan slid over her shoulders in a whisper of silk and cast her curves into shadows. If someone knew what they were looking at, it would be titillating, but for the casual observer, it would be nothing more than a flowing gown. The belt slid around her back and anchored the caftan through the holes in the front.
“Shoes, Kisha.”
Kisha selected some heeled pumps and helped Del get them on the correct feet without tipping over.
“Any makeup miss?”
“No, Kisha. Wissla knows what I look like.”
A quick check at the chronometer and Del was on her way to the formal dining room. She had made the reservations herself.
Delyth gave her name to the dining room attendant, and he smiled and led her through the dining room and to a private space in the back. “I didn’t order the private room.”
The attendant smiled. “It was ordered for you. Your party is waiting.”
As Delyth entered the room, she stopped short. “Oh. It’s you.”
Wissla was sitting next to High Prefect Kurat, and the coordinator was nowhere to be seen.
Kurat got to his feet and came to greet her, pressing a kiss to the hand she extended in reflex. His tongue was rough against the back of her knuckles, and her nipples hardened in reaction.
