The healer groaned from the floor. “What a way to go.”

  Khytten blushed and laughed.

  Chapter Two

She nuzzled his head, and he did the same in return. She whispered, “I don’t think my legs are strong enough to get me off.”

“I thought that was my job.” He murmured it against her ear.

“It can’t be your job; I can’t afford you.” She licked his ear. “It would have to be a volunteer basis. You are not normally altruistic. Generous, yes, but you don’t give up your time easily.”

He shivered at the delicate caress of her tongue.

“Ah, kitten, you are beginning to understand. This makes two rescues of your person now, so you owe me.”

“What can I get the man who has everything?”

He smiled. “I have one or two ideas on that front.”

The healer stirred and sat up with a satisfied but shocked expression on her face. “That was... I haven’t ever felt anything like that.”

Salat stroked Khytten’s cheek, and she rubbed her head against it. “She is one of a kind. My kitten.”

She blushed and leaned on his chest, her head against his neck. He ran his hands over her slowly, petting her.

The healer smiled and got to her feet. “I will get your kitten something to wear. You seem to have effectively destroyed her clothing.”

“I merely finished what was started.”

Khytten tried to get off Salat, but he held her tight. She called out before the healer left, “If you have a medical smock, that would be fine. Please.”

Salat chuckled. “Torenne will choose what she thinks the experience was worth.”

“How long have you known her?”

“Since we were children at school. When she activated, things changed dramatically for her.”

Torenne entered with an armload of dresses. “And then I became a hermaphrodite, and he got all black and pointy. It is hard to believe that we used to arm wrestle at recess.”

Salat murmured, “It was an all-boys school.”

“Oh, that must have been disconcerting.”

Torenne laughed. “That is putting it mildly. I love the healing and have an issue with my own body. It seems that I can’t have one without the other. So, kitten, I think you would look good in this black dress.” She smiled. “You wear black very well.”

The dress was draped and wrapped, but it looked like the top had some stretch.

Torenne chuckled. “You will have to pry yourself off Salat.”

She kissed Salat and then pushed herself off him. Torenne winced. “I do not know how you can take him.”

“The active change did strange things to everyone in this room. I appear to have been designed for tall, dark, and creepy over here.” She staggered upward and dismounted.

Torenne handed her the dress, and Khytten fluffed her hair out when she got her head free. The dress wrapped around her snugly, and it gave her curves a pleasant outline.

The skirt flared away from her legs, and she wobbled as she put on her shoes. They had fallen off at some point. Salat went to clean up and, watching him walk away, started her thudding pulse all over again.

She smoothed her hands down her thighs and looked up to see Torenne looking at her wistfully. “The offer to please you still stands.”

Torenne chuckled, and the sound was low and wicked. “I will hold you to that, kitten. I think the next time will be soon enough. Thank you for today, though. That was the first genuine enjoyment I have had in decades. No fear, no dark emotions, just lust and release. It was wonderful.”

Salat returned and got dressed. “How are you feeling, kitten?”

“Sticky. How much longer until we get where you are dumping me overnight?”

Torenne smiled. “You can leave her with me if you need to go on an assignment.”

Salat gritted his teeth. “I am not dumping her; I am keeping her with me until I have to go somewhere. At that point, I may ask you to keep an eye on her.”

Khytten looked at their host. “Where is the restroom?”

  Torenne smiled. “Come with me.”

She walked with her heels clicking on the polished wood floor. “This is a super-cute house.”

Torenne nodded. “Thank you. It was my grandmother’s. It was difficult for me to remain in Aksalla when I was grown, so I came here and set up shop somewhere between home and everywhere else.”

Khytten nodded and said, “I just have to tidy up, so I don’t wreck your dress.”

“It’s fine. I get a lot of clothing from clients. I really don’t like to be wearing their offerings when they show up. Besides, that dress looks way better on you than it would ever be on me.”

She darted into the bathroom and cleaned up. Khytten rinsed a cloth out and pressed it to her, cleaning up anything sticky or slick. She rinsed the cloth out twice and finally felt like she wasn’t going to seep fluids onto the dress.

She used the toilet, cleaned up again, and splashed some water on her face. It would take a proper shower to get the blood off her body. Her clothing had absorbed most of it, but there was a bit left. Scrubbing at it with the cloth didn’t get all of it.

She straightened and opened the door. Torenne was standing there, and to Khytten’s surprise, she was pulled forward and into a kiss that got very hot very quickly. Working with Zera had gotten her used to breasts getting mashed. She responded to the other woman’s body and cuddled her close. When the kiss cooled, Khytten stroked Torenne’s cheek. “Are you okay?”

“Um, yeah. All I could feel from you was concern.”

“Well, you said you didn’t want that kind of contact with me and then you did. Changes of that nature are cause for concern.” She stroked the healer’s throat with her thumb.

Torenne whispered, “I didn’t trust you not to laugh.”

“I am not one to laugh. I know what kind of brutal humour folks can use at the expense of our active adaptations. A body is a body. It is just how our mind gets around and how our activities get focused.” She stroked her hand down Torenne’s body, and when she saw Salat in the hallway shadows, she caught his nod, and he whispered, “Give her what she needs, please.”

She heard it inside her head, and she pressed Torenne against the wall, kissing her as her hand wrapped over the erection through the fabric of her dress. Torenne scrabbled at the skirt and pulled it upward. Khytten touched the normal erection that would have done any standard human proud. She stroked it gently with her fingers, and Torenne’s head dropped back. Khytten started to kneel, but Torenne whispered, “Inside you, please?”

Khytten chuckled. “Fine, but you will have to trade places with me.” She blinked as the healer switched places with her and pulled her skirt up. They were close to the same height, so when Torenne bent slightly, her erection moved against Khytten and slipped into her with a groan from both of them.

“Ohmygod, how can you be so tight?” Torenne groaned.

“Bodies are funny things. This is what mine does.” She whispered it as the healer started thrusting, and she kissed the other woman as she went faster and faster, plunging and pumping until she groaned and thrust deep.

Khytten feathered kisses over her face, focusing on the warmth and building heat that Torenne had started.

  Torenne sighed. “You didn’t cum.”

“No, things progressed too quickly, but how do you feel?” Khytten had a leg wrapped around the healer’s thighs.

“Really good. Can I keep you?”

Salat growled. “No. No, you can’t.”

Torenne jerked out of her and moved away. “Salat, I forgot you were here.”

“It is a good thing that Khytten remembered, or I would be irritated.”

Torenne blushed. “I just... she doesn’t have any hang-ups regarding what I am.”

“She accepts us as we come, so to speak.”

“And now she has to tidy up again. Back in a
minute.” She left the old friends to stare at each other while she went to clean up again.

When she came out, they were no longer haunting the hallway. She walked into the kitchen next to the medical area, and they were having tea. A third mug was waiting for her.

She sat down and took the mug into her hands. Salat reached out, grabbed her chair, and pulled her over. “Sit with me. We are laying out ground rules.”

She blew at her tea and took a sip. Peach. Her favourite. “What ground rules?”

“Torenne’s interested in you, but you and I have an exclusive contract. What is your opinion on the matter?” He asked her a serious question.

“Um, Zera and Torun have a primary clause in their contract, but I don’t want to go on the escort path again. Well, not more than in a really restricted way.”

“That wouldn’t be an issue. This would be more like having you on loan, like a library book.”

She snorted. “That’s a sexy image.”

Torenne sighed. “I had forgotten what the connection with another human felt like. You didn’t ask me for anything and didn’t demand anything. You simply let me have my moment. I thank you for that, but I wouldn’t ask it again. The next time, I would like things to be a bit more romantic or involved. I want to touch you, hold you, and be touched in return.”

Khytten asked Salat, “How far is this place from your house?”

  “About half an hour. Why?”

“Can I come over and keep Torenne company when you are on assignment? I mean, if I get bored. I can only take your collectibles out and use them for target practice for so long.”

  He narrowed his eyes. “Uh-huh.”

“So, if I could help Torenne with paperwork and stuff... and get used to her, I might become less fun when she gets to know me.”

Torenne cocked her head. “I can’t see that happening. The more I hear about you, the more fascinated I am.”

“I am charming, I grew up broke, and I have had a lot of jobs.” She smiled. “I also get a lot less timid around folks when we have had sex and they didn’t recoil from getting a little milk on them.”

  Salat grinned.

“Yeah, I know. You would roll around in it if I was so inclined.”

His eyes narrowed blissfully. “Oh, that is a thought.”

She elbowed him and sipped at her tea.

Torenne chuckled. “Ah, so, now I finally see it. Well, I would be delighted to be considered as a caretaker for your kitten if she needs it.”

“Thank you. There is no one I trust more to take care of her if anything happens to me.”

“Dude, I am right here. I can take care of myself.”

“Which is how we ended up here today.”

She stuck her tongue out at him. He grabbed her jaw and pulled her in for a kiss. She tried to yelp, but he took her tongue with his teeth and held it carefully before he released it and pressed his mouth to hers.

She sighed and gave herself up to the kiss. She felt a stroke on her cheek and turned her head. Torenne’s kiss was careful, but Khytten met her efforts with enthusiasm. The healer could feel what she felt, and so it was important that she left no doubt that she enjoyed the other woman’s touch.

Another light stroke on her cheek, and she returned to Salat. He cupped the back of her skull and held her for a bone-melting kiss.

She was shaking and aching when she felt a soft touch, and Torenne hissed. It took a bit for Khytten to realize that there was a com chime happening.

Torenne pulled away, and Salat cuddled Khytten to him. While the healer took a booking, he murmured, “Do you mind that?”

“It was sneaky, but I understand. As long as you come home to me, I don’t care. I still need to figure out my next career step.”

He chuckled. “You have time. Your birthday party is next week. After that, you will have to register as an active, complete with details.”

She wrinkled her nose. “I don’t want to.”

“Tough. You need to be a registered active to get entrance to Aksalla, and I really want you to travel with me. All travel documents require the declaration.”

She felt grumpy, being hauled from such a nice headspace back into reality. “Fine. I will consider registering beyond the lactator classification. I just have no other idea how to define myself.”

“Make them define you. Give them a variety of samples or demonstrate for them. I’ll give you a present?” He raised his brows.

  “Like what?”

  “Rocket launcher?”

She looked around. “Find me some paperwork.”

He chuckled and grinned. “Pace yourself. So, I believe that our host has gotten a booking, and we need to be on our way.”

Khytten looked at Torenne and saw sexual frustration on her face. She sighed and knelt in front of their host. “Hold your skirt.”

  “You can’t...”

Salat chuckled. “If she wants to, she can. Hike your skirt, Torenne. I won’t look.”

The erection was weeping, and Khytten took it into her mouth, sucking and stroking. She reached behind the penis and in front of the ball and found the small opening. A finger slid in, and Torenne bucked, her cock jumping, and Khytten swallowed. She stirred her finger around slightly and then withdrew it. “Better?”

Torenne blushed. “I am sorry it was so fast.”

Khytten got to her feet. “Stamina comes with practice or from jerking off and stopping before you cum. Also, not passing out when you finally get into someone warm and wet.”

Torenne kissed her and blinked. “Is that what it tastes like?”

  “Yup.”

  “Weird. I have never...”

“You have ignored your body. That’s fine, but if you want to start playing with it, you have to make friends.”

She blinked and looked down. “Um, yeah, I guess I should find out what it wants.”

“Good plan. You should also register with Blind Date Corporation. There may be escorts who will happily take you on, or you could register as an escort yourself on the off chance you find someone who is looking for someone just like you.”

Torenne snorted. “What are the odds of that?”

Salat came up behind Khytten and wrapped his arms around her. “Astronomical, but I am glad I did it.”

“Oh. Right. My next client will be here in twenty-five minutes. You should go.”

Salat smiled. “Thanks for your help, Torenne. I get the funny feeling that my kitten is going to keep charging into trouble.”

“I will be here to put her back together when she needs me.” Torenne reached out and squeezed Khytten’s hand.

“Seriously. I am not trying to get clawed up and shot.”

Salat blinked. “When were you shot?”

  “Um. Never mind.”

“We are going to revisit that, kitten.”

They waved to their hostess and left for Salat’s vehicle. It was part desert runner and part angry robot and all black and sleek like its driver.

Torenne was cleaning up in preparation for her next patient. Khytten smiled as they glided down the drive. “I hope her next client is nice.”

  “She doesn’t suffer fools.”

“I bet we are more fun than they are.”

His bright and heavy laugh filled the vehicle. “I can guarantee you that we were. You especially. I didn’t know you enjoyed women. Well, aside from Zera.”

“It is an unfortunate side effect from the lactation. When I see someone adrift, I get all protective, and Torenne needed protecting. Plus, I understand the betrayal of a body. You have to learn to work with what you have to get by, and in her case, she needs to accept the fusion. It isn’t going away.”

  He paused. “Could it?”

  “What?”

“Could you create a treatment to reverse the activation?”

“Um, maybe, but her healing is tied to the changes. If she reverses the effects, she might... wel
l, she probably will lose the healing.” She shrugged. “It will be up to her. I will mention it if she ends up babysitting me.”

“It won’t be babysitting. It will be keeping an eye on you as you start to change the direction of your occupation.”

She made a face. “Sure. That still sounds like babysitting to me. I mean, if we get bored, we can get naked, so there is that.”

“As long as you remember that I will be listening.”

“Wait. So, it was Torenne who installed that? I may have to reconsider things.”

He winced. “Don’t tell her I told you.”

“You aren’t the boss of me... oh. Wait.”

He laughed then sobered. “Now, when were you shot?”

“Um, leaving Aksalla. My arresting officer got me in the chest and ribs. I was rushed to hospital, and I was patched up before being deported. One of the moms with a preemie was a healer, and she helped me with a nearly surgical repair as thanks for my help with her little one.”

He sighed. “I see. Shot running from the law?”

“I wasn’t running. I was caught while trying to leave and had my hands above my head when she shot me. It turns out that my family said I had some kind of toxic adaptation.”

“Right. I really don’t want to meet your family.”

“It is highly unlikely that you will.”

“I don’t know. Aksalla takes family ties fairly seriously. Sadly, you will be judged by the actions of your family, even against you.”

  “Wonderful.” She grumped.

“Don’t worry. I still like you.” He chuckled, and they drove along, his hand grabbing and holding hers as they travelled. He had been alone for a very long time. So had she. It was best that they clung together now. She had the feeling that their lives were not going to go particularly smoothly.

  Chapter Three

She sat in his lap and read the news on his tablet. “Zera has been arrested, and they are holding a tribunal to investigate her undeclared activation.”

Salat kept his arms wrapped around her waist. “See? Aren’t you glad that we went in yesterday?”

  She snorted. “Yes, Patron.”
